The chair is a university professor with a Masters in Library Science who teaches children's literature. ![]() All but the committee chair serve in school or public libraries. The award was first presented in 2006 and is administered by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association. The winner(s) are recognized for their literary and artistic achievements that demonstrate creativity and imagination to engage children in reading. Seuss, the award is unique because it honors both the author and illustrator. Named for the world-renowned children’s author, Theodor Geisel, a.k.a. The Geisel Award is given annually to the author(s) and illustrator(s) of the most distinguished American book for beginning readers published in English in the United States during the preceding year. We asked Miss Kate to respond to a few questions to learn more about the award process and her experience. ![]() ![]() This year the Olathe Public Library's very own Kate Capps, children's librarian at the Indian Creek Library, served on the committee that decided the winner of this distinguished award.
