This loop is intended for people wishing to camp at the rest area for the night. Many of Kansas’ rest areas are designed with a paved road that loops through the facility. They only say that you are not allowed to block others from accessing the rest area or its facilities. KDOT does not clarify if you are allowed, or not allowed, to pitch a tent and sleep on the grass. Kansas does not have any rules that prohibit sleeping in your vehicle while at a rest area or other roadside facility. Can You Sleep Overnight at a Kansas Rest Area? Because Kansas rest areas are open 24 hours a day, nothing seems to prevent you from staying there overnight. The KDOT says you can stay up for 24 hours at a rest area or other roadside facility.
